These Horsemen of the Apocalypse are not your biblical destroyers. They take a more insidious modern form: efficiency, convenience, obfuscation, and profitability.
We love horses and regret their commandeering for apocalyptic purposes. Run free & wild!
This song was inspired by the writing and activism of Rebecca Solnit and Tracy Seeley, as well as citizen investigative journalists exposing disinformation on climate change, military maneuvers, and elections.
Musically, while infused with blues and rock ’n roll, this song ran wild of its own accord.
lyrics
Horsemen of the Apocalypse
I see you,
I know who you are.
Horsemen of the Apocalypse
riding fast
riding hard,
Bringing destruction
in your wake.
The first horseman is Efficiency
cut out the joy,
cut out the slack.
The first horseman is Efficiency
do more with less,
never look back,
hastening us
to our demise.
The second horseman is Convenience
make it easy,
no matter the consequence.
The second horseman is Convenience
wrap it up
seduce and entice,
leaving us empty
and hollow.
Horsemen of the Apocalypse
I see you,
I know who you are.
Horsemen of the Apocalypse
riding fast
riding hard,
Bringing destruction
in your wake.
{guitar}
The third horseman is Obfuscation
What does that mean?
What does that mean?
The third horseman is Obfuscation
the words don’t match
the reality,
muddling
our minds.
The fourth horseman is Profitability
Fossil Fuel fiddles
while the world burns.
The fourth horseman is Profitability
they take and take
but they don’t take turns,
leaving us burnt out
and wasted.
Horsemen of the Apocalypse
I see you,
I know who you are.
Horsemen of the Apocalypse
riding fast
riding hard,
Bringing destruction
in your wake.
OUTRO
But we shall ride
on steeds of light
love shines through
the turmoil and haze.
Yes we shall ride
on steeds of light
building it up
day by day
with our hands
and our hearts
and our hearts
with our hands
and our hearts
with our hands
and our hearts
with our hands
and our hearts
with our hands
and our hearts
